Senna – Oral

Why do I need this medicine?

Senna is used to treat constipation. It is also used to empty the bowel before medical procedures or surgery.

This medicine belongs to a group of medicines called stimulant laxatives. Stimulant laxatives increase bowel movement by stimulating the muscles of the bowel.

 

How do I take this medicine?

Take Senna exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more than instructed by your doctor.

Senna is usually given as tablets, powder, or syrup.

Take this medicine 2 hours before or after other medications. Try to take it at the same time each day, preferably at bedtime.You may stop taking Senna when you have no more constipation.
