Why do I need this medicine?

Ropinirole is used on its own or together with other medicines to treat Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s disease is a disorder that affects movement of a person, causing symptoms such as tremors, muscle stiffness, slowed movement and impaired balance or walking.

Ropinirole cannot cure Parkinson’s disease but it can improve the quality of life for people who have the disease.

Ropinirole may also be used to treat Restless Legs Syndrome.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Ropinirole exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Ropinirole may be taken with or without food. If nausea occurs, Ropinirole may be taken with food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

If you are taking the prolonged-release or extended-release type of tablet (may be labelled “XL” or “PD”), swallow it whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the tablet.

Ropinirole must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking Ropinirole even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed otherwise, as stopping it suddenly could worsen your condition.
