Oseltamivir – Oral

Why do I need this medicine?

Oseltamivir is a medicine used to treat viral infections.

It is used to treat or prevent certain types of flu. It shortens the time that you suffer from flu symptoms such as fever, stuffy nose, cough, sore throat and muscle aches. It can also be used as prophylaxis for people at higher risk of exposure or complications.

 

How do I take this medicine?

Take Oseltamivir exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take this medicine with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Oseltamivir may be given as the capsule or oral suspension.

If you are taking capsules, swallow the capsule whole. If you have difficulty swallowing, the capsule may be opened and the contents may be mixed with sweetened food products such as chocolate syrup, sweetened condensed milk, apple sauce or yogurt.

If you are taking an oral suspension, shake the bottle well before use to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure your dose.

This medicine must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue to take it even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.

Do not skip any doses. You must complete the entire course. If you don’t, the infection will not clear completely.
