Levofloxacin – Oral

Why do I need this medicine?

Levofloxacin is an antibiotic. It is used to treat certain bacterial infections of the nose, lungs, heart, skin, genitals, prostate, bladder, stomach and bowels.

This medicine may be used to treat other bacterial infections as decided by your doctor.

 

How do I take this medicine?

Take Levofloxacin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Levofloxacin is available as a tablet or oral solution.

The tablets may be taken with or without food. Always take it with a full glass of water, unless your doctor has specifically told you not to do so.

The oral solution must be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure out your prescribed dose. Ensure adequate fluid intake.

Levofloxacin must be taken at regular intervals for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.

Do not skip any doses. You must complete the entire course of antibiotic. If you don’t, the infection will not clear completely.
