Levodopa + Carbidopa – Oral

Why do I need this medicine?

Levodopa and Carbidopa are combined together in this pill.

Levodopa + Carbidopa is used on its own or together with other medicines to treat Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s disease is a disorder that affects movement of a person, causing symptoms such as tremors, muscle stiffness, slowed movement and impaired balance or walking.

This medicine does not cure Parkinson’s disease but it can improve the quality of life for people who have the disease.

 

How do I take this medicine?

Take Levodopa + Carbidopa exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take this medicine on an empty stomach. However, if you experience gastric discomfort, take it with food. Try to take this medicine at the same time each day.

If you are taking the modified or prolonged release tablet labelled “CR”, swallow it whole. Do not chew or crush the tablet.

If you are taking the orally disintegrating tablet, place the tablet on the tongue, let it dissolve then swallow with saliva.

This medicine must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking it even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed otherwise, as stopping it suddenly could worsen your condition.
