Galantamine – Oral

Why do I need this medicine?

Galantamine helps to reduce symptoms of dementia such as memory loss, confusion, and problems with thinking and reasoning in Alzheimer’s disease (a progressive disease which destroys memory and other important mental functions).

Galantamine does not cure Alzheimer’s disease, but it can improve the quality of life for people who have Alzheimer’s disease.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Galantamine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take Galantamine with meals. Try to take it at the same time each day.

If you are taking the extended-release capsule, it is best to take it in the morning after your breakfast. You must drink at least 8 glasses of fluid everyday while being treated with Galantamine.

If you are taking the oral solution, use the oral dosing syringe, measuring spoon, cup or dropper provided to measure your dose and empty the contents into a glass of non-alcoholic drink. Stir the solution well and drink it immediately.

Galantamine must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking Galantamine even when there are signs of improvement which can take a few weeks for you to notice. Do not stop taking Galantamine unless instructed by the doctor.
